Two-dimensional transition metal carbides (MXenes), as an emerging class of two-dimensional materials, show great potential for applications in electrochemical energy storage, sensors, electromagnetic shielding and biomedicine due to their unique physicochemical properties.
Since 2018, the International Symposium on 2D Transition Metal Carbides, initiated by Prof Yury Gogotsi, has rapidly grown into the world's largest symposium in the field of MXene. After four sessions of exciting academic exchanges, this series of conferences has brought together thousands of leading experts and young scholars from more than 20 countries and regions, and jointly promoted the vigorous development of MXene research.
A new chapter in research and development
Recently, the 5th International Academic Conference on 2D Transition Metal Carbides was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, aiming at discussing the latest research results, challenges and future development direction of MXenes, and setting up a platform of exchange and cooperation for researchers and experts and scholars in related fields around the world.

Authoritative leadership, building bridges of scientific research and exchange
This academic conference is co-chaired by Prof Yury Gogotsi of Drexel University and Prof Zhu Jianfeng of Shaanxi University of Science and Technology. As the organiser, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, together with the Materials Schools of 12 top universities in Shaanxi, including Xi'an Jiaotong University and Northwestern Polytechnical University, will gather global wisdom to promote the in-depth development of MXene research.
MXene style: the new favourite for research and wide range of applications
MXene materials, with their unique physical and chemical properties, have shown broad application prospects in many fields such as energy storage and conversion, sensing technology, and multifunctional polymer composites. The success of the MXene2024 Conference not only deepened the researchers' understanding of the cutting-edge development of MXene materials, but also provided solid support and guarantee to promote their research and application.
